Here is a little science lesson on laughter.
“Laughing activates the release of the neurotransmitter, serotonin. Serotonin is a chemical that has a wide variety of functions in the human body. It is sometimes called the happy chemical, because it contributes to wellbeing and happiness. The scientific name for serotonin is 5-hydroxytryptamine, or 5-HT. It is mainly found in the brain, bowels, and blood platelets.
Laughter protects your heart. Research has shown that laughter has an anti-inflammatory effect that protects blood vessels and heart muscles from the damaging effects of cardiovascular disease. How this happens isn’t entirely understood, but it seems related to lessening the body’s stress response, which is directly linked to increased inflammation. Regular, hearty laughter should probably be part of every heart disease prevention program.“*
My husband and I were able to spend time this past weekend with some very amazing and special friends. They are not just friends. They are our spiritual brothers and sisters. All I can say is I’m still experiencing the effects of laughter from being with them. (Clean) Laughter is wonderful for our overall health. As you can see from the science of the effects of laughter, it can have a big positive impact on depression.

I remember a season when I walked through a valley of the “shadow of depression and anxiety.” I did not want to laugh. I just wanted to hide and isolate myself. I tried everything I could, in my own strength, to make this go away. I started juicing everything from Kale to beets, spinach, ginger, and many other of the miracle foods God has created. I was exercising, taking natural vitamins, even speaking to others who I thought could help me, but to no avail. I came to a wall time and time again.

I finally decided to let God work! I didn’t realize until then that I had not fully surrendered to Him. I always loved God and knew there must be a reason for my struggle. Something good was going to come out of this! Right, Vicky?Vicky is my big sister. She fully understands the medicine of laughter. She is an amazing woman although she just doesn’t believe it!
The enemy (Devil) lies to us! When we believe him instead of believing what God says about us, darkness has no problem moving into our thoughts and causing havoc in every area of our lives.
Jesus said…
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
John 10:10
I pray for all of you today who are seeking joy in your lives again. I personally know that there is only one fully satisfying place. It’s with the very One who created me and you to love Him and be loved by Him🌹.
One day we will come to understand everything. For now, I’m trusting in His purpose and timing for the questions I ask Him. Until then, I will keep walking, one step at a time.
Be blessed!
Jackie! love your little tid-bits of joy! Yes, laughter and Jesus is all we need! Good you keep walking, but also keep writing! Love you!
